Local businesses gather underwear in Sacramento

What can it look like for local businesses and households to network together for the sake of homeless students? I wanted to share a vision with you and ask you to consider getting involved.

Project 680 is doing an underwear drive for homeless students, so I figured a group of us could team up to help this important effort by pitching in. If 17 local businesses or familes each donate 25 pairs of underwear and my company donates 100, we’ll hit 500 pairs with ease. This team-approach will help us maximize results and put a big dent in Project 680?s goal to collect nearly 3000 pairs of new underwear by May 11, 2011.

If you do join the team, you’ll get a link below, links on the Project 680 website and SacTube, recognition on the P680 Facebook page, kudos on Twitter (and some other stuff too). Of course, the best thing you’ll get is the knowledge you did something good.

Midtown Realtors plan a “Giving Day” to support the Sacramento Food Bank

Crime prevention tips for neighborhoods

Crime impacts real estate, doesn’t it? Well, on the converse, when residents get together to fight crime and deal with problems in their community, that can also be attractive to buyers – and therefore impact real estate positively. Wouldn’t you rather live in a community that was safe and where people were looking out for each other? (as opposed to everyone being isolated, which is far too common).

Here are some crime prevention tips from two local police officers in Rancho Cordova. What would you add to the list to help prevent crime?

Crime impacts real estate, doesn’t it? There was recently a murder in Rancho Cordova, and one neighborhood is doing something to help increase safety in their community. Watch the video to see how they need to bring safety to this one location that has been a “haven” for criminal activity.

In light of a murder on Mills Park Drive in Rancho Cordova, both Weed & Seed and the Cordova Towne Neighborhood Association is hosting a Community Safety Forum on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 7-8:30pm at Rancho Cordova City Hall. Please note that this meeting will be about discussion and solutions. This will not be an anger-fest. RCPD and City Officials will be on hand to pitch in to discussion where approrpriate.

This event will be facilitated by residents (not City Hall) and the goal is to find out what the community really wants to do about the safety issues at this location. What are our options, obstacles, and what does it look like for the community to respond? Additionally, what does it look like to increase safety in the White Rock area also? What can happen from this day forward to help stop crime and create a better and stronger community?

Exit Realty West will host their 4th annual CanTree Auction on Friday November 19, 2010 beginning at 4:30pm. Come out for this festive food-filled fundraiser to benefit the Salvation Army. Last year the Sacramento Association of Realtors raised a total of $65,000 for the Salvation Army during the Christmas season and Exit Realty West’s CanTree auction was a part of that. Last year’s auction had gift baskets, 49ers tickets, Kings tickets and some other really great items (and it was fun too).

The Sacramento Association of Realtors Young Professional Council hosted the 3rd Annual “Bowling for the American Dream” event on September 25, 2010. The event sold out and it was a big success to rasie money for the California Association of Realtors “Housing Affordability Fund” (C.A.R.H.A.F.), which funds programs like the Mortgage Protection Program (MPP), SAR’s very own ECO program, and more!

Thank you everyone who participated, bowled, dressed up in 80s gear and sponsored the event. Great job to so many in our local real estate community. Graffiti demonstration on my truck and a few tips

I met with GRS (Graffiti Removal Services) and we did a little graffiti demonstration. I tagged up the body of my truck and their product took it off very easily. Additionally, I talk about the importance of working with the city, talking to police, and working together to cover graffiti within 24 hours of when it occurs.

Let me say that I feel like such a dork to have misspelled “neighbor” in the video, but that’s life isn’t it? (especially after only 2-3 hours of sleep the night before).

How does tagging make you feel? Has your neighborhood or community had a graffiti problem? Big or small? Have you seen anyone attempt to do something about it? If you could say anything to a tagger, what would you say?

The Young Professionals Council through SAR will be hosting an opportunity to network, eat, and have a blast, but beyond that we’re going to be raising some money to support a local girl named Elle that is truly in need. Project 680 Success: A Community Effort to Support Homeless Students and a Local Real Estate Appraiser

Project 680 is a grassroots volunteer organization that supports local homeless students in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD). This volunteer community organization was started by Sacramento Real Estate Appraiser, Ryan Lundquist. Have a look at a recent KCRA interview that covered the “Biking for Socks” event. This was the grand finale of the Project 680 Sock Drive. The goal was to collect 2000 pairs of socks and at least $783 for local homeless students. Thank you to everyone who poured time, energy and heart into this cause!!! Over 2,800 pairs of socks were collected and over $1,800. Way to go!!!

Red Day with Keller Williams Realty

Chad Focht, local mortgage specialist, filmed a video the other day. Check out the great work a group of Realtors (and others) from Keller Williams pulled off at Sacramento High School. Way to go!!!

“On Thursday I joined Keller Williams for RED Day and filmed this video. RED Day stands for Renew, Energize and Donate. We all joined together to help Sacramento High School. We sanded, painted and replaced bleachers on their baseball field, we sanded and painted the doors of their gym and gave the school some much needed help. Another part of the office worked at helping the Elk Grove Teen Center and that was just the Elk Grove Keller Williams. Every Keller Williams in the Nation shut their doors to participate and give back to their communities. What an amazing day!” – Chad Focht

Sacramento Real Estate Broker Keith Klassen “Raids the Aisle”

A local real estate broker, Keith Klassen, did something pretty cool today. Along with his wife and kids, the Klassen tribe decided to go and “raid the sock aisle” at a local store in Sacramento. The Klassen family generously purchased 132 pairs of socks for the upcoming Project 680 Sock Drive. Our goal has been to raise at least 2000 pairs of socks for local homeless students in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District, so 132 pairs is a really fantastic dent toward meeting this goal.

Isn’t it so wonderful to see how the Klassen kids were so intentionally involved as decision makers in this video? Way to go Keith.

A few weeks ago KCRA news anchor Diedre Fitpatrick filmed some of the Project 680 team “Raiding the Sock Aisle” at Target in Rancho Cordova. As you’ll see in the video, “Raiding the Sock Aisle” was coined by Erin Attardi. The story turned out really great. I love how it highlights the simplicity of making a difference in the community, our goal of collecting at least 2000 pairs of socks, and how social media can be used to advocate for local homeless kids too. Great job team!!!

Homeless Students in the FCUSD: Project 680 is Doing Something

Project 680 is a grassroots team effort led by local residents in Rancho Cordova and Folsom (and beyond) to do something about the problem of student homelessness. Project 680 is all about discovering simple ways to support local students. We are not looking to create enormous and time-consuming programs either, but emphases that are easy to pull off and also make sense for everyone. We are continually keeping our eyes and ears open for what local students need and then we do something about it by getting the community involved.

Project 680 Bike Ride: Doing Something About Student Homelessness in Rancho Cordova & Folsom

I’m very excited to announce Project 680′s upcoming “Biking for Socks” event on May 8, 2010. We are doing a community bike ride in order to accomplish three things: 1) Bring awareness to the problem of student homelessness in the FCUSD; 2) Collect socks for homeless kids in the FCUSD; and 3) Gather up a few bucks to be able to give to the District Liaison for Homeless Services so she can meet the needs of students on an “as needed” basis – meaning that when the neediest of students come to her, she can simply take care of some of the things they need – whether clothing, deodarant, shoes, study materials, etc….

Rico Rivera talks about a charity that is near and dear to his heart, the Moral Values Program of Sacramento.

There is general agreement that a major cause of crime is the lack of values taught to children. Too many of them are being raised without the benefit of loving, responsible and competent adults who teach them right from wrong. Too many children are not learning to feel joy at others’ joy, or sadness at their sadness. Too many children are not learning to feel pride and satisfaction at doing the right thing, or remorse and guilt when doing wrong.

The practice of these values will result in improved school attendance and grades, improved behavior, and the development of a caring, self-reliant human being.

YPC Gives Check to Sac Moral Values

Sacramento Association of Realtors – Young Professionals Council presents a donation to the Sacramento Moral Values Program. YPC raised $1,004.50 through a fundraising event (tailgate party and Sacramento Rivercats game) sponsored by ticket sales and a donation by the midtown Sacramento branch of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. A great time was had by all, and best of all – we were able to support a fantastic and very deserving Sacramento charity.
